Can I cancel GamStop before my self-exclusion period ends?

No, and this is not a matter of discretion or special circumstances — it is a hard rule with no exceptions. GamStop's self-exclusion is irrevocable for the duration of your chosen minimum exclusion period (six months, one year, or five years). You cannot request early removal regardless of the reason: not because you registered by mistake, not because your circumstances have changed, and not because you feel the exclusion is no longer necessary. GamStop exists to protect people who may be vulnerable to impulsive gambling decisions, and allowing early cancellation would undermine the scheme's entire purpose. If you are within your exclusion period and want to return to gambling, the only option is to wait until the period expires, then follow the standard removal process.

What happens if I don't contact GamStop after my exclusion expires?

Your exclusion is automatically extended by seven years. This is the most consequential detail in the GamStop system, and the one most people fail to plan for. When your minimum exclusion period ends, GamStop does not send a notification or reminder of any kind. If you do not proactively contact them to request removal, the system adds seven years to your registration. A six-month exclusion becomes seven and a half years. A one-year exclusion becomes eight. A five-year exclusion becomes twelve. The extension cannot be shortened or appealed once it takes effect. The only way to avoid it is to contact GamStop on or shortly after your expiry date. Set a calendar reminder — GamStop will not do it for you.

Does my GamStop registration affect my credit score or financial records?

No. GamStop registration is entirely confidential and has no connection to your credit file or any background check system. Credit reference agencies — Experian, Equifax, TransUnion — do not have access to GamStop data, and your registration creates no entry or marker on your credit report. It will not affect a mortgage application, a loan decision, or any other financial product. GamStop data is also excluded from DBS checks and is not accessible to employers, landlords, or insurance providers. The only parties aware of your status are GamStop itself and the UKGC-licensed operators who receive the exclusion data. Once your exclusion is removed, even that limited disclosure ends.
